your all QUESTIONS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is run by Australia’s National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). It is for eligible Australians born with or acquiring a permanent and significant disability.
A permanent disability refers to a person’s disability that is likely to be lifelong.
A significant disability implies that the disability will have a large impact on the person’s ability to perform daily activities.
The NDIS is delivered across Australia with the help of NDIS providers and community participation. They provide essential services and support to eligible beneficiaries to fulfil their care needs. An NDIS provider can be an individual, organisation, or business registered with the NDIS to offer funded services.
NDIS-registered providers have various skills and expertise to meet different needs, such as supported independent living. Registered providers must meet the government’s safety and quality standards.
Eligible self-managing participants may also use unregistered NDIS providers for various needs. However, there are exclusive benefits to registered members, such as:
Access to a competitive and innovative marketplace
Marketing yourself as a registered member
Access to information and updates from NDIS and training tools and resources for the team
Becoming an NDIS registered provider is subject to meeting quality and safety conditions stipulated by the government. Unregistered providers have not met government requirements, which may limit their access to NDIA–approved lists.
Age Requirement
NDIS services are available to people between the ages of 7-65. A local area coordinator can guide you through understanding the services offered by NDIS and its partners. Children under 7 can be supported by an early childhood partner.
Residence Requirements
NDIS services are available for Australian citizens, permanent visa holders, and protected special category visa holders.
Disability Requirements
The NDIS provides support to people with permanent disabilities. This may be cognitive, physical, intellectual, psychosocial, or neurological.
You may also be eligible if you need support to minimise your need for future support or to equip your family with skills to help you.
The NDIS expects to support around 500,000 disabled Australians for a five-year period that began in 2019. It supports registered NDIS providers in Sydney and other areas under a comprehensive scheme to directly assist disabled people and their families and careers.
The NDIS engages community partners from qualified and experienced organisations with a strong understanding of disability needs in their community.
The NDIS covers people living with permanent disabilities under the age of 65. Local area coordinators support people over 7 years, and early childhood coordinators support those below 7.
NDIS providers in Sydney work alongside managers and coordinators to provide a range of services, including:
Respite care
Providing special disability accommodation
Personal care
Assistance with household tasks
Mobility equipment
Assistance in travel
Workplace assistance
Home modifications
You can fill out an NDIS checklist at Am I Eligible, and if you qualify, you can make a verbal application on 1800 800 110. You can also fill out an Access Request Form, which you can access online or through your local area coordinator.
Once you fill out the forms, you will have to provide evidence of disability subject to verification before you are considered for funding.
Not sure how to begin? We offer years of expertise in personal care for people with disabilities. We are a registered NDIS provider working with local authorities to get help to Western Sydney and its environs. We’d love to answer your questions.
